Bodrum's tourist season gets longer each year and it has a reputation as the most popular and undisputed tourist hotspot of the coast and Turkey in recent years. If you set out from Gulluk for Bodrum, you will see that the slopes of the gulf are covered in pine forest down to the water's edge giving out a provocative, sweet smelling odor.
Its narrow winding roads and tiny white box houses still carry traces from its rich history. Situated on a peninsula Bodrum is primarily devoted to entertaintment and swinging night life.
How to get there?
There are a few altemative drives to Bodrum. One can follow the motorway through Izmir-Menderes-Kusadasi- Soke and-Milas. Total distance is 233km. Another alternative is IzmirSelcuk-Kusadasi and Milas253km. You may also reach Bodrum by air. It's only a few hours drive by car from Dalaman international airport and Menderes international airport near Izmir.
Also owners of small private aircraft can fly directly to an airport near carpet producing village of Mumcular.
What to do?
One should experience the night life in discoteques and bars to really feel the irresistibly happy atmosphere they create. However, putting the nights aside we will list what you can do during the day. Day trips by boat can be made from Bodrum to Karaada or Black island, across Bodrum's bay and also to Bardakci, a nice sandy beach. Gumbet, 2km. from Bodrum is a long sandy beach dotted with motels and pensions. It is the center of water cistem and windsurfing. And then comes Bitez, a bay west of Gumbet and Adabogazi. You may also take day trips by road to charming nearby villages.
Bagla, Karaincir, Akyarlar can be reached by sea and Turgutreis, Gumusluk bays by road. Also remember to drop a visit to Golkoy, Turkbuku, Yalikavak,Ciftlik and Mazi coasts. For those who are found of blue cruising a small remark; There are blue cruises into Gokova bay and to the islets it shelters. Some of these are Celebi, Kargi, Koremen, Mersincik, Yildiz, Zeytinli islets.
